Frank Yakesch, Jr., 90, formerly of Duncan, passed away Feb. 18, 2013, at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro, Kan. He was born April 19, 1922, near Lilac, Texas, the son of Frank and Elvena (Meyer) Yakesch.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Bray Missionary Baptist Church in Bray. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilson City Cemetery, Wilson, Kan.
He served his country for over 24 years with the United States Army, serving during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict, earning the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He later managed a parts store in Duncan.
On Jan. 16, 1998, he was united in marriage to Shirley (Brack) McWhirt. In 2012, they relocated to Hillsboro to be closer to family.
He was preceded in death by siblings John Yakesch, Dora Walker, Dorothy Seay and Edna Sullivan; and a step-son Don McWhirt.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Shirley Yakesch of Hillsboro, Kan.; his step-children David McWhirt (Debbie) of Alexandria, Va. and Raelene Heitschmidt (Todd) of Marion; his siblings Evelyn Muckelrath of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Ruth O’Conner of Gustine, Texas; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established for the Bray Missionary Baptist Church or the Marlow Missionary Baptist Church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm Street, Marion, KS, 66861.
