VELMA —
Dwayne “Andy” Anderson, 78, of Velma passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 in the Country Club Care Nursing Center in Duncan.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Eastside Church of Christ in Duncan with Ron Stough officiating. Interment will be in the New Velma Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. today, in Duncan, and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, in the Velma Church of Christ.
Andy was born April 26, 1934 at Velma, the son of Hubert and Jewell (Teal) Anderson.
He graduated from the Velma-Alma High School in 1952 and received his engineering degree from the Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater.
He and Barbara Nelson were married in Velma, on Dec. 22, 1956.
He was a school teacher, track and field and assistant football coach for Velma and worked as a geological engineer for the Butkin Oil Company for many years.
He loved sports, especially football, and worked hard all his life.
He was a member of the Velma Lion Club and was a faithful member of the Eastside Church of Christ where he served many years on the Missions Committee.
Andy had been ill for many months and was an inspiration to all who knew him. His faith remained strong even as his body grew weaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Larry Don Anderson and his daughter Kristy Lyn Anderson.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of the home; a sister, Barbara Kay Cole of Houston; his mother-in-law Maudie Nelson of Velma; a sister-in-law, Rachael Anderson of Houston and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be David Newman, Leo Stiewert, Jack James, Glenn Knutson, Bubba Knutson, Jack Anderson, Nick anderson and Ted Hollis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Loring, Ron O’Brien, Kenneth Shaw, Haskell Murphree and Glen Mullens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastside Church of Christ Mission Fund.
