Edeltraut Gertrud Lina Haas

April 23, 1930 — Nov. 10, 2012

AMARILLO, Texas —  Edeltraut Gertrud Lina Haas, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Duncan Cemetery for family and close friends.

Edeltraut, or “Edel” as she was known to many, was born April 23, 1930, the youngest of two siblings, to Heinrich Thies and Dorothea Thies (Marx) in Stettin, Germany.

She married Stephen C. Haas on May 23, 1960, and became a Halliburton wife until he retired from international services in 1980, moving his family back to his native hometown of Duncan.

She remained in Duncan for 25 years, until moving to Paris, Texas, with her husband in 2005, because of his ailing health and to be closer to their son. In 2008, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, into an assisted living community.

Edel completed the final and most significant stage her journey of a lifetime, on Saturday morning… passing in her sleep to be reunited with her husband who had preceded her in 2009.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, as she was truly a wonderful mother, wife and friend.

Edeltraut is survived by her son, Dr. Stephan O. Haas, a radiologist in Amarillo, and granddaughter, Brooklin Lina Haas.

Please join our family in celebrating the life of a truly remarkable person. Her memory will live on in the many lives she has touched.

The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, please consider making an honorary donation in the memory of Edeltraut Haas to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org.
