Irene Agnes Schmidt Brown

Irene Agnes Schmidt Brown, 93, of Duncan, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Duncan.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Ware officiating. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Irene was born July 22, 1914, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Christian and Helen Casey Schmidt.
While living in Tulsa, she was a homemaker and a medical office manager for many years. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as worthy matron of the Apala chapter.
After moving to Duncan in 1979, she worked in the office of Dr. Kenneth Carroll until her retirement in 1981.
Irene devoted many volunteer hours to Duncan Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a part of Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Her life was devoted to her role as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Irene loved to cook, do ceramics, needlepoint and knitting. She completed more than 30 afghans currently being treasured and used by family members and friends. She also knitted many, many caps worn by newborn babies at Duncan Regional Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters: Betty Apple and husband, Ed, of Duncan, and Ricki Crawford and husband, David, of Tulsa; a son, James Henderson Brown and wife, Barbara, of Grayson, Ga.; a brother, Walter Schmidt and wife, Dorothy, of Lee Summit, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Lisa Brown Hale and husband, Matt, Eric Henderson Brown and wife, Sharon, Paula Brown, Alyson Apple Livingston and husband, Mike, Leigh Anne Apple Sutherland and husband, Jim, Lori Crawford, and Dana Crawford McCollum and husband, Chad; and eight great-grandchildren: Jessica, Briley, Courtland and Lawson Hale, Emily and Grant Brown, Lee Edward and Blair Livingston and Abigail and Isabella Sutherland.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Harold and Raymond Schmidt.
