Sarah Elizabeth Henderson Major

MADILL — Sarah Elizabeth Major, 94, of Madill, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 at The Willows Assisted Living Center in Sherman, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Duncan Cemetery, Duncan. 
She was born on Oct. 21, 1918, in Oakland, Okla., to J. D. and Sally Ann Faunt Leroy Henderson. Sarah graduated from Madill High School in 1936, and attended Murray College in Tishomingo. She married Lloyd “Maj” Major in 1937 in Tishomingo. Sarah worked in the Purchasing Department at Halliburton in Duncan for 32 years, retiring in 1985. 
Sarah and Lloyd had two children: son, Randy Major and wife Ann of Pearland, Texas, and daughter, Sallianne and husband Larrel of Madill.
Sarah was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for 48 years serving numerous offices including president. She volunteered at Duncan Regional Hospital for 15 years. She served on the board of directors of Chisholm Trail Hospice in Duncan for eight years. She was on the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church in Duncan, First Vice-President of Couples Class of First United Methodist Church.
Sarah was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Duncan for 51 years. In 2001, she was named Duncan Chamber of Commerce “Volunteer of the Year.” She moved to Madill in 2004, to be near her daughter. After moving to Madill, Sarah volunteered at the Madill Hospital for six years. 
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; brothers: John and Sam; sisters: Iwauna Jeannet, Joe Carter Maxey, Mary Y. Hawley and Ruth Rogers.
Sarah is survived by her children; four grandchildren: Janie Beth and husband Kenny Evans of Tulsa, Skip and wife Shay of Madill, Amy Major of Tomball, Texas, and Cassie and husband Tim McCarthey of Yukon; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill. Condolences may be made at wattsfuneralhome.com.

    Curtis Franklin Sherman was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Rock Creek, Oklahoma, to Carl Franklin and Ruby Mae Sutton Sherman. He defeated a long battle with cancer when he entered the gates of Heaven on May 19, 2013. 
    Curtis proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy earning the rank of Electrician II Class. He served during the Korean War from 1951-55 on the US Battleship St. Paul.

    Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Thursday, May 23 in the Duncan Cemetery with Pastor Jackson officiating.
