Dana Dewayne Dill

July 25, 1977 — Dec. 9, 2012

COMANCHE — Dana Dewayne Dill, 35, of Comanche passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at his home in Comanche.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Comanche, with the Rev. Steve Harshaw officiating, assisted the Rev. Rick Forthman. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Dana was born July 25, 1977, to Becky Baxter and David Dill in Duncan. After spending his early years in Duncan and Ada, he began attending Comanche Schools, where he graduated in 1995. Continuing his education at Southeastern State University, Dana majored in Business Administration. He was initiated as a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, and was always a favorite of his friends and classmates.

During his college years, he began employment as a bartender and club manager, an occupation that he continued for several years. After relocating to Dallas, Texas, and later to New Orleans, La., Dana used those skills to excel, working at high volume metro clubs and five-star restaurants. Among those venues were Gaylord’s Texan, Dallas, and well-known nightclubs on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

A lifelong lover of gourmet food and an accomplished chef, Dana worked at NOLA, restaurant of celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse in New Orleans, as well as the reknowned Brennan’s. Always the life of the party, Dana was known for his quick wit, hilarious pronouncements, gift with words and love of friends.

After several years and ready for a change of pace, Dana returned to Comanche to be with old friends and family, where he was employed by Halliburton Services. He continued to cook for family and friends on a nightly basis when not in the field, and was a generous and gregarious host.

While living in Comanche, he was available at all times to assist his grandmother Sue Baxter, and was “Uncle Dana” to Nick Minter Jr., son of his cousin. Incorporating a child into his daily life was a new experience for Dana, and he was fun, generous and kind to little Nick, a friend to the end, always being sure that he had great music, fun games, and an opportunity to learn to appreciate the joys of excellent food.

A huge sports fan, his favorites were the New Orleans Saints and the New York Yankees, for which Dana took a lot of good-natured ribbing by Texas Rangers fans. He did, however, pass on his love of the Yankees to little Nick, and amply supplied him with Yankees shirts, caps and memorabilia.

Dana was also a member of the Duncan Moose Lodge, an avid dart player, and loved music, comedies and was developing a newfound interest in books.

Dana is preceded in death by his grandfather, Dewayne Baxter, Comanche; grandmother, Jean Dill, Duncan; and cousin, Nick Minter, Sr.

He is survived by his grandmother, Sue Baxter of the home; parents, Becky and Bruce Ballou of Eagle Pass, Texas; his brothers: Dustin Dill of Covington, La., Sean Crowell and April Doshier, and nieces Amelia Doshier-Crowell and Kaetlyn Sanders, Norman; Sherry and Jim Minter, his aunt and uncle, and Nick Minter Jr. of Duncan; his parents, David and Debbie Dill, and sister, Megan Dill, Norman; his grandfather, Walter Dill, Duncan; aunt Kim Gibson, Dallas; and cousin Megan, Duncan.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Dill, Sean Crowell, Jason Thomas, Rick Hickenbottom, Damon Minter and Jim Minter.
