Alvin Cecil McDonald

Feb. 28, 1925 — Nov. 12, 2012

DUNCAN — Alvin Cecil McDonald slipped peacefully from his worldly tethers to join his Lord and Wife in Heaven on Nov. 12, 2012, at Duncan Regional Hospital.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens on west Cache Road in Lawton, with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Carter-Smart Funeral of Duncan.

A.C. was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Chickasha, to Marvin and Margie McDonald. He graduated from Lawton High School after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his release from the service, he returned to Lawton and met the love of his life, DeElma Helms McDonald. They married on June 15, 1948, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 2005. The life that passed between the two of them could fill a novel.

He is survived by his son, Larry Alvin McDonald of Lawton; Deborah Jean Wilson of Duncan; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

A.C. loved family gatherings, which included camping, fishing, bowling, go carts and Friday nights. Summers were filled around a campfire, sharing the tall tales from a day of fishing and planning the next day. Bowling and car racing were the families past times.

He enjoyed his work careers and retired from two companies. The first was 18 years with Johnson’s Dairy in Lawton, and his second retirement was with Halliburton’s in Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Griner School for the Handicapped Children in Lawton in his name.

Pallbearers will be Jay Strickland, Mike Cummings, Dennis Riddles, Gene Barteau, Mark Turner and Bryan Turner. Honorary pallbearers are H.W. Cummins, Scott Lassater and Chris Wilson.
