DUNCAN —
Marian (Weddle) Tiehen, 92, passed peacefully from this world with a joyful heart and spirit on Feb. 8, 2013.
Viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, followed by a prayer service and Rosary at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 12, 2013, at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church with graveside services following at Resurrection Cemetery.
Marian blessed her family with love, encouragement, excellence, and her rugged spirit. Marian was born in Falls City, Neb. on Aug. 23, 1920, to Calvin “Cal” and Anna (Armbruster) Weddle. Marian and her brothers and sister grew up in Falls City and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy. In 1939, she graduated from Nebraska State Teachers College in Peru, Neb.
Marian married Robert L. “Bob” Tiehen, her life-long love and companion, in April of 1941. Soon after, they moved to California where Bob trained in the Army. After Bob served in WWII, they returned to Nebraska, and then transferred to Oklahoma where they later reared their three children in Ardmore, Velma, and Duncan.
Marian had a beautiful and strong Catholic faith and was the consummate organizer, leader, and volunteer. In 1981, she served as the National Director of the Province of San Antonio for the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW), where she worked hard for the Right to Life movement.
In 1982, she and Bob moved to Oklahoma City to be close to their children and grandchildren. That year, her infant grandson, Ryan, was saved by the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at the Mercy Hospital NICU. In thanksgiving, Marian dedicated the next 25 years to volunteering at the Mercy Gift Shop and dearly loved her time there.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her brothers James, Harold, Ed, and Neal Weddle.
Marian is survived by her sister, Genevieve Hoover (Falls City); her three children and their spouses, Ron and Penny Tiehen, Jerriann and Kent Smith, and Richard and Linda Tiehen; her eight grandchildren, Christine Rochman and Brian Tiehen, Lori Carter and Jay and Shaun Smith, Ryan, Mitch, and Lauren Tiehen; and her eight great-grandchildren David, Cate, and Lizzie Carter, Gavin, Mason, and Delaney Smith, and Andie and Leo Smith.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to Denise Saunders for her loving care of Marian in the last few months of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Eugene’s Catholic School Foundation.
