DUNCAN —
MARLOW — Virginia Lee McElhanon, 85, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at her home in Marlow.
Graveside service was at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Marlow Cemetery, with Kent Strahan officiating. Services were under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Virginia was born Sunday, March 6, 1927, in Bristow, to James Harlan and Eva Jewell Luker Legg. Virginia graduated from Guthrie High School and lived all of her adult life in the Marlow area. On Feb. 14, 1954, she married T.M. McElhanon in Duncan.
Virginia worked at Halliburton Services as a receptionist for 23 years. She enjoyed traveling, watching sports on TV, reading and working word puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Virginia was a member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and a member of the First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in CWF.
Survivors include husband, T.M. McElhanon of the home; daughter, Jayme Rowe of Norman; son, Bruce McElhanon of Marlow; grandchildren: Jennifer and Darrin Walters of Norman, Jill Slay of Norman, Jarrod and Karin Rowe of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren: Christian and Elisabeth Slay of Norman and Jack and Alice Walters of Norman; sisters: Mary Jackson and husband George of El Reno, Dorothy Hoover of Wickenburg, Ariz., Pat Kulbeth and husband Jerry of Guthrie; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law: Treasure Welch, Ozia Smith, Nadine and Bill Baxter, Jewel Dean Lambert, Lottie McElhanon; a host of friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jason Slay; uncle, Bobby Luker; nephew, John Cort; brothers-in-law: Bill Shoemate, Norman Cort and Clayton Hoover.
