LOCO —
Kenneth Wade Ketchum died suddenly Jan. 4, 2013, doing what he loved, running his traps and feeding his cattle in the pasture north of his home in Loco.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, at New Hope Baptist Church West officiated by Rev. Randy Southerland with interment to follow at the Ketchum Ranch in Loco, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-7 p.m. Monday.
Kenneth was born on Oct. 21, 1939, in Loco, to Fred Ketchum and Joy Elliott Burk. He lived his entire life in the place he dearly loved, Loco.
Kenneth and Janell Bryant were married on Valentine’s Day in 1963 at Lindsay. They have one son, James Fred Ketchum, who was Kenneth's pride and joy! James and his wife Sheila are graduates of Oklahoma State University and have two daughters, Logan Elizabeth and Alivia Jade, who Kenneth adored.
Kenneth was an honorary member of the Stephens County 4-H Club, Velma-Alma 4-H Club, an Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Velma-Alma FFA. He served on the Loco School Board, the Velma-Alma School Board, and the Stephens County Livestock Growers Association. He retired from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture after 35 years of service as a State Livestock Inspector.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his brother Richard Ketchum, his sister Joyce Ketchum and his step-brother Joe Winfield.
He is survived by his wife Janell of the home, son James Fred and wife Sheila and their daughters of Lone Grove, Ninnie Betty of Oklahoma City and sisters Sally Ketchum Edwards of Oklahoma City and Diana Ketchum and husband Mark Condit of Duncan; nieces Sarah Jane Williams, Susan Williams, Sally King and Ashley Edwards; nephews Jeremy Webb, Brad Eason, and Dylan Edwards and seven great-nieces and nephews.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Kenneth, James Fred, and Brad spent many hours in the woods on the place at Loco and oh, the stories they could tell! He was a Velma-Alma Comet, supporting all the athletic teams. Recently, Logan began to play softball for the Lone Grove Longhorns and Pepa was there to watch at each game, where he and Alivia made many trips to the concession stand. This world has lost a real character, a man who could talk to anyone, loved to tell stories, and made us all laugh. He will be truly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Pallbearers will be Bob Wilson, Jerri Wilson, Butch Hubbard, Kent Harman, Brad Eason and Mark Condit. Memorial contributions may be made to the Taylor LeNorman/McCasland Cancer Center at Duncan Regional Hospital, 1407 Whisenant Dr., Duncan, OK 73533.
