Violet Sybil Gonsoulin, from her first days gained a true sense of place. She recalled she was born on a crisp, cold, cloudless Monday morning at 7 a.m. Nov. 24, 1919, in Stephens County, in Section 27, 1S-5W in the home of her maternal grandparents, George and Emma Harmon.
She died at dawn on a crisp, cold, clear Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 2012 at the age of 92, in Duncan.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at the Assumption Catholic Church, with Rev. Peter Jandaczek officiating, with interment to follow at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Violet and Joseph Fernand Gonsoulin, Jr., were married Dec. 7, 1941, at Corpus Christi, Texas. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2005.
She graduated from Seminole High School in 1937 and Seminole Junior College in 1939. Violet was a homemaker and a member of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was very involved in Catholic education services, a member of the Stephens County Historical Society, the Stephens County Genealogical Society and worked for years with the Stephens County election board.
She is survived by her children, Kaaren and Peter Iverson, of Tempe, Ariz., Diane Ellis, of Duncan, David and Becky Gonsoulin, of Montgomery, Alabama, Mark and Terry Gonsoulin, of Blanchard. She is also survived by one brother, Joseph William McClanahan, Jr., of Victoria, Texas; one sister, Judy Kaye Webb, of Duncan; 11 grandchildren, Tim Warder, Scott and Lissa Warder, Erika Iverson, Jens Iverson and Kate Orlovsky, Brett and Claudia Gonsoulin, Tina and Andy Holmes, Brian and Jennifer Gonsoulin, Jena and Justin Jones, Chris and Elyon Ellis, Justin and Alexis Skaggs, and Nathan Gonsoulin; 11 great-grandchildren, Carmen Warder, Roman Warder, Freya Saskia Iverson, Tara Gonsoulin, Paige Gonsoulin, Dade Gonsoulin, David Thomas Chissoe, Samuel Holmes, Sophia Holmes, Kyle Gardner and Josh Chiasson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Violet was also preceded in death by her parents Joseph William and Emma Jane Harmon McClanahan, Sr., an infant daughter, Cecilia Gonsoulin, and a sister, Shirley Yvonne Arneson.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
