DUNCAN —
Dec. 31, 1955 — Oct. 8, 2012
Rex Lee Dunn was born Dec. 31, 1955 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Jesse Lee and Hazel Lorene Rater Dunn. He passed from this life Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Duncan Regional Hospital. Rex fought a long hard battle with cancer until the Lord took him home at the young age of 56.
Rex graduated from Waurika High School in 1974 and then attended college at Murray State University in Tishomingo. He married Tracie Chisum in Hastings, on May 28, 1989 and to this union two sons were born, Jace and Kyote.
Rex was owner and operator of Coyote Hills Rodeo Company and fighting bulls. He was a rodeo clown, pro bullfighter for over 16 years, and a bullfighting mentor developing Coyote Hills Bullfighting Schools.
He was also a fighting bull stock contractor, breeding and supplying the most fierce and aggressive Mexican fighting bulls in the professional Bullfighters Circuit.
“He along with wife Tracie and sons Jace and Kyote have one of the best fighting bull breeding programs in the world” according to Doug Munsell. Rex was a member of Addington Baptist Church.
He loved the Lord, his family, and his community. He was a friend to many and a huge supporter of Jefferson County.
He leaves behind a legacy that no award can take the place of...a heart of a servant and a love for the Lord.
Rex has accomplished much in his short 56 years here on earth including: being selected to work three National Finals Rodeos (1983, 1985, and 1986), two Canadian Finals Rodeos and 13 circuit finals over a 16 year bullfighting career. He was also selected as PRCA clown of the year in 1985. He raised Howdy Dooty the 1997 Fighting Bull of the Year.
He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2010 and was the first person to be placed in the hallowed hall in three different categories; clown, bullfighter, and stock contractor. He is survived by his wife Tracie of the home, sons, Jace Dunn and Kyote Dunn, brother, Chuck
Dunn and wife Jackie, mother and father-in-law, Bill and Helen Chisum, aunts and uncles, Woodrow Brandon and wife June, Peggy Rater Baldwin, Dora Dunn Gant, and Peggy Dunn Powers. Rex is also survived by his dog Jack, and many other friends and family.
Rex lost his father Jessie Lee at the age of four. His mother Lorene married Glen Brandon on July 14, 1962. Glen preceded him in death Aug. 23, 2005 and Lorene preceded him in death July 30, 2006.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Coyote Hills Arena with the Rev. Jason Ebenhack and the Rev. Mike Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be in the Hastings Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
