DUNCAN —
Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said Ray Carroll Martin was arrested by deputies about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the Corum area.
Authorities had been searching for Martin, and his female companion, Crista Gibson, since learning of an alleged assault on a Comanche woman that took place Wednesday night. Martin’s arrest came four days almost to the hour after the alleged incident occurred. Gibson is still at large, McKinney noted.
Originally, they were believed to have left the state, but Martin’s capture indicated they didn’t go far from home. An arrest warrant was issued late Friday by the Stephens County District Attorney’s office for both Martin and Gibson, who each have a prior record. Gibson served 10 days in the county jail after she pleaded guilty to an assault and battery charge on a Stephens County Sheriff’s deputy April 15.
As to the alleged assault that happened Wednesday, McKinney said there was a motive indicated.
“Martin told her (the victim) he had nothing to lose because he was looking at serious (jail) time over a drug arrest,” McKinney said.
The pair were considered armed and dangerous, as Martin allegedly had a pistol on the victim and she was also shot with a taser.
Martin was arrested in early June by a Duncan Police Officer on drug trafficking charges after 74 grams of methamphetamine was discovered, to which he claimed was his. He was booked into the Stephens County Jail and released with a $20,000 bond.
If anyone has information on Gibson or her whereabouts, McKinney said they should contact Stephens County communication’s center, at 580-255-2112, or the local authorities.
