DUNCAN —
Stage department store manager Amanda Robnett confirmed Monday that Goody’s will be returning to Duncan. It won’t happen tomorrow, but in the future Duncan will become another Oklahoma town on the Goody’s roster.
Goody’s reemergence in Oklahoma has already begun, with a store in Ardmore. But Robnett did stress that a story in for Duncan is still in the distant future.
Duncan Goody’s closed its doors in early 2009, to the dismay of its clientele. It was one of the big chain department stores which failed during the onset of recession across America.
However, Stage has managed to weather the financial crisis, even though its price point is much higher than Goody’s was, Robnett noted.
“There’s a possibility in the next year, Duncan will get a Goody’s back,” she said, noting that Stage bought Goody’s and many of the lines it carried.
Robnett, who has been manager at Stage since August 2010, said she was fortunate to help set up the “new” Goody’s in Ardmore this recent March.
“Stage bought the name. I believe it will be exciting to be a part of a new store,” she said.
Duncan’s Stage store is scheduled for a remodel in 2012, but no dates have been set. It’s possible Stage and Goody’s will combine at the old Goody’s location, but there’s also the chance Stage will remain in its current building and remodel, while Goody’s will reopen in its previous building.
At present, Robnett said Stage personnel are referring customers to the Ardmore store if they are looking for specific name brands or cosmetics. She cited Duck Head as one of the lines.
“It’s because of our customers that we’re still here,” she said.
As developments arise, Robnett will keep the public informed. She said customers shouldn’t get too excited, though, as a return by Goody’s won’t happen before Christmas.
