DUNCAN —
Even with the doors opening at 9 a.m. Thursday for pre-registration at the Duncan Toy Shop, people were already lined up by 7:30 a.m.
Pre-registration for the Toy Shop took place Thursday and Saturday. By the end of pre-registration period, about 240 families were registered.
Kathy Snider, Duncan Toy Shop co-chair, said the number of families being served by the Toy Shop this year may be higher than last year, if the pre-registration numbers are any indication.
“The numbers were up at pre-registration,” she said.
A great number of Toy Shop volunteers showed up for pre-registration about 8:15 a.m. and were blown away by the number of people already lined up, she said.
“It went really well,” Snider said. “We have a number of people who helped out. It seemed to go really smoothly.”
She said pre-registrations help to make sure more children are able to be served by the Toy Shop. She was satisfied by the number of people who decided to start early to get their children registered with the non-profit organization.
“People are wanting to make sure their children get something,” Snider said.
While pre-registration might have ended, Snider said registration will be coming up in December. She said registration will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from Dec. 1 to 13. Items will be delivered on Dec. 14.
Snider said registrations can be done in person or by phone. Parents and guardians need to have Social Security numbers for themselves and their children. The parents and children must be residents of Duncan.
Children that can be registered for Toy Shop range in age from birth to 18-years-old. For high school-aged children to be registered, they must attend Duncan Public Schools.
“It’s going to be a big year again this year,” Snider said.
While Dec. 1 might be the beginning of registration for the Toy Shop, it’s also the day of the Toy Shop Toy Blitz, which lands on the first Wednesday of December each year.
Snider said she is looking forward to helping children through Toy Shop.
“We want to be sure the kids aren’t left out,” Snider said.
