Some area towns see growth in tax numbers

OKLAHOMA CITY — Duncan saw an increase in its share of tax collections for the month of Aug. compared to what the city collected in 2009.

The City of Duncan saw an increase of almost $100,000. Waurika and Velma also showed an increase in a year-to-year comparison, while Marlow’s and Comanche’s numbers were down.

The following list shows what the area communities collected from the OTC:

Stephens County collected $228,113.22 this year compared to $210,011.87 in '09. Jefferson County collected $51,009.91  which is well up from $42,648.45 in 2009.

The August distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from June business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from June 16 to June 30 and estimated sales from July 1 to July 15.

The disbursement of $117,702,124 in sales tax collections was returned to 505 cities and towns reflecting an increase of $7,992,323 from the $109,709,801 distributed to 505 cities and towns in August last year. The use tax disbursement of $8,547,641 was distributed between 367 cities and towns.

In county returns, 74 counties shared in a $24,907,076 sales tax disbursement. The use tax disbursement of $1,680,390 was distributed between 70 counties.
