Humane Society gets new managers

When a person loves animals working for the Humane Society just seems like a natural choice. That’s what the Stephens County Humane Society’s two newest managers thought when they took their jobs. Jan Hamilton is the new office manager for the Humane Society and Michael Dalton is the kennel manager.

“I have always worked with animals my whole life,” Hamilton said “ I used to work part time at the veterinarians clinic in Comanche and I have been here for a little over a month and love it.”

Dalton was promoted to his job as kennel manager when the division of managers was made because of his tenure with the Humane Society. He said that the best part of doing his job is just a good time because he gets to spend it by helping the animals.

“I have been here at the Humane Society for three years now,” Dalton said. “I love my job and I love helping these animals.”

The Humane Society’s Trap/Neuter/Release program was recently approved at the last Duncan City Council meeting. Dalton said that before coming to Oklahoma he worked in Dallas and trapped, neutered and released some of the animals in his own neighborhood. H says that he plans on helping with that in Duncan by educating people on the importance of the program.

“ People need to understand the importance of spade and neutering these animals,” Dalton said. “That is what we will be trying to do with this program by helping educate these people.”

For Hamilton educating is just part of the reasons she enjoys her job.

“I just really enjoy interacting with all of the different people and the different animals that get brought in,” Hamilton said. “While interacting with the people I still try to tell them the importance of spade and neutering the animals.”

While working with the different animals and people is a plus for both Dalton and Hamilton, they both said that there is big negative to the job.

“One negative is that we can not save them all,” Hamilton said. “No matter how hard we try to we just can not save them all.”

Betty Burk, Humane Society president, said that both Dalton and Hamilton have done such wonderful jobs working at their new positions.

“Jane has done such a fantastic job for us in the short amount of time that she has been here,” Burk said. “ Mike here a long time and has done a great job for us, so it was it was good to promote him.”
