Cub Scout Pack 415 went to Chickasha with for the District Pinewood Derby races. The Duncan based Pack had 10 Cubs competed in the big race to see who was the top scout in the district.
Cub Scout Leader Jason Brewer said that he was proud of the Cubs and the job that they did with their Pinewood Derby cars.
“I was happy with the work that everyone put in this year,” Brewer said. “The hard work that everyone of them put in really showed in the trophies that they received this year.”
Five of the Cubs who participated received trophies in their divisions, as well as one family member competing in the open class division.
Receiving the Peoples Choice award and Grand Champion in Craftsmanship was second-year Webelo Bailey Dyer.
In the Tiger Cubs division, Salvatore Joy IV came in second place in racing.
Placing for the Wolf Cubs was Weylin Watson with first place in craftsmanship and Dylan Cox with third place in craftsmanship.
Rounding out the Cubs who placed in districts was second-year Webelo Dakota Ritter who finished with first place in racing.
Chelsey Hurlocker competed with the Cubs this year competing in the Junior Open division. She finished in first place for craftsmanship.
Hurlocker said that she has competed in the open class the past six years and finished in first place for craftsmanship the past two.
“The cars this year looked really cool and I am just glad that I won first place this year,” Hurlocker said. “I have placed in the past but these last two years were the best that I have done yet.”
Brewer said that during the races some technical difficulties arose for all of the racers and the computer run track.
“During the races the computer apparently broke down,” Brewer said. “So instead of racing six cars at a time they had us run three cars at a time.”
Brewer also noted that those in charge of the races did a wonderful job of making adjustments to the problem.
“They had someone down at the end of the track with a digital camera on the sports setting holding the button down to find the winner,” Brewer said. “It made the races go a little bit longer but it made it more efficient in the end.”
