Pot, pills land man in jail

DUNCAN — A local man is in the county jail and awaits a formal arraignment in Stephens County District Court after being arrested early Thursday morning, when two local agencies coordinated and executed a search warrant.

Aaron Blake Rodriguez, 21, of Duncan, was arrested by officers of the Duncan Police Department and Stephens County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, at a local residence.

District Attorney Bret Burns issued a statement Thursday afternoon that Rodriguez will be charged with one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute.

The arrest was the result of a “short” investigation. Burns alleges that Rodriguez was involved in the distribution of both prescription pills and marijuana.

“All our law enforcement agencies are committed to catching and prosecuting anybody who distributes and sells addictive substances to our young people,” Burns said.

DA Investigator Justin Scott said that evidence recovered in the search warrant was indicative that the alleged suspect was distributing marijuana and prescription pills to young people.  

Burns commended the police departments involved and wants the public to increase awareness of prescription pill abuse.  Burns warns that “prescription drug abuse and the illegal sale of pain pills has dramatically increased in the last two years.

The most recent conviction involving prescription pain pill illegal sales was a jury trial in late April, in which Marva Troy, 61, of Duncan, was found guilty of distribution of a controlled substance (CDS), Oxycontin, based on a controlled buy that took place in 2008.
