DUNCAN — Any day is a good day for spaghetti. Just ask the Robotics Club at Duncan High School.
The DHS Robotics Club will have a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church.
Denise Clark, DHS Robotics Club adviser, said, “It will go to help pay for the entry fee and the trip to Kansas City, Mo.”
This will be the second spaghetti dinner for the club this school year. The first took place Dec. 1, 2009.
The reason for the additional fundraiser is because of a funding shortfall. Clark said one of the club’s usual sponsors didn’t come through financially for the club. She said the sponsor will still help the club this year by providing engineers to help the students build their robot.
The funding is necessary to let students continue into the competition portion of the year. The team will be competing March 4-6.
For now, students are building their robot, Clark said. Students have a deadline at the end of February to get their robot built and ready for competition.
“Ready or not, we’ll have to stop by then,” Clark said. “We’ll be ready.”
This will be the fourth time the club has had a spaghetti dinner. Clark said she has noted the success of the fundraiser each time because of the generosity of the Duncan community.
While tables will be set up in the gathering hall at First United Methodist, a take out option will also be available. Club members, along with various community members, will be helping to serve people throughout the dinner.
In addition to spaghetti, salad and dessert will also be served. The desserts will be homemade items made by church members and various people in the community.
Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the dinner. Still, people can get their tickets prior to the day of the dinner.
“We have students going all over town to sell tickets,” Clark said.
