Duncan Banner takes third at OPA awards

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Duncan Banner placed in seven categories and finished third in Division II of the Oklahoma Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest Friday night.

The Banner was third with 510 points, behind the Ada Evening News (570) and first-place finisher Stillwater NewsPress (770).

The Banner placed first in news writing and feature writing, while taking second in sports coverage, photography and layout and design.

The Banner placed fourth in news content and in-depth enterprise.

The Banner’s sister paper, the Waurika News Democrat, finished second in Division II with 730 points, behind the Tulsa County News (780).

Waurika was first in-depth enterprise, sales promotion, editorial comment, personal columns, sports coverage and photography. The News Democrat places second in news writing, fourth in feature writing and fourth in community leadership.

    A Duncan woman was arrested and charged with larceny of a controlled dangerous substance, after it was discovered she took a pain medication patch from a patient at Country Club Care nursing facility.
