DUNCAN —
With hope of completing work on a new water tanker, the Empire Fire Department will be cooking up some barbecue Saturday as part of its annual fundraiser.
Fire Chief Steve Earnhart said the fundraiser will be taking place Saturday morning at the Empire School and the community center, with registration for the car show starting at 8 a.m.
“I like the car show the best,” Earnhart said. “I like seeing all the old cars showing up and the car talk going on.”
The car show is one of the handful of activities planned for the fundraiser, with the firefighters raising money to install a water tank on a truck the department received from the Department of Defense.
“We got the truck about four months ago,” Earnhart said. “Industrial Paint painted it for us.”
Installing the tank is the last step for the truck, which will be able to haul approximately 3,500 gallons of water to aid firefighting abilities.
Brisket, along with a dessert and drink, will be served starting at 11 a.m. at the community center, which is next to Empire School campus.
A burnout contest is also planned to coincide with the car show, which will have its award ceremony around 1:15 p.m., Earnhart said.
Raffles will be running for a shotgun and a pistol during the fundraiser and children will have the opportunity to bounce, skip and jump on the inflatables setup in the “Kid Zone.”
The Toby Wayne Band will provide live music during the event.
