DUNCAN —
A young woman was assaulted around noon Wednesday at Main and Sixth Streets, and an investigation is being conducted by Duncan Police Department, said Sgt. John Webb.
Eyewitnesses who made the 911 calls said they were concerned for the victim when they saw several other women beating her.
Donald Sauls, who works at the lumber store at that location, said he wasn’t going to get involved, but was worried for the young woman.
“I heard the commotion and came outside and then I saw the one young woman and these three ladies jumped on her. I have learned not to get involved,” he said. “Another woman made the call. If she hadn’t called there is no telling what would have happened.”
Sauls said that several people gathered but no one stepped in to help.
He said that the fight started when one of the alleged attackers threw a tool at the back window of the victim’s car, breaking it completely out. The ratchet extension was laying on the ground underneath the vehicle while police were collecting reports from the victim and witnesses.
Sauls pointed out a larger pipe laying in the grass about midway down the block from the vehicle. He said the girl had gotten out and grabbed the pipe because she appeared frightened. It was not known if she had used the pipe or not.
Another eyewitness who asked to remain anonymous said that she made the phone call, but also saw two other women calling on their cell phones. She was also concerned when she saw the three women ganging up on the young girl.
First Responders were called to the scene by Duncan Police, but the victim refused treatment at the scene, said Sgt. John Webb. As the police were gathering evidence, what appeared to be friends and or family arrived at the scene for the victim.
