Accident sends Comanche woman to hospital

COMANCHE — Amber L. Stevens of Comanche, 23, and Gregory E. Vaughn of Duncan, 55, were involved in an accident about 10:30 p.m. Monday in Grady County, in which they both were transported to Duncan Regional Hospital.

Vaughn was treated and released, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report filed by Trooper Chris Black of Troop G, Lawton.

Stevens was transported by Rush Springs EMS to DRH and admitted with internal head and trunk injuries. Megan Sanner, DRH media coordinator, said Stevens was treated and released.

According to the affidavit, the accident happened on U.S. Highway 81, about 1/10 of a mile south of County Road 1570 in Grady County, when the pickup that Stevens was driving heading south, exited from the road to the right and traveled about 215 feet in the ditch at which point it struck a culvert sending it airborne for about 85 feet. The pickup, a 2002 Chevy Silverado, landed and made a complete roll. The report indicated that the cause may have been attributed to speed and neither Stevens or Vaughn wore seatbelts.

Trooper Black investigated the accident, with assistance from Trooper Timothy Parrish of the Grady County detachment. Responders to the crash were Grady County Sheriff’s Department, Rush Springs Police Department and Fire Department and its EMS service.
