DUNCAN —
U.S. Representative for District 4 Tom Cole took the lead in Tuesday’s Oklahoma Primary Election with 87.75 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Gary D. Caissie had 12.25 percent of the vote.
On the Democratic ballot, Donna Marie Bebo of Lawton, had 58.27 percent of the votes, while her opponent Bert Smith had 41.73 percent. Cole and Bebo will face-off in the general election Nov. 6.
In the Stephens County race, Cole had 89.33 percent of the vote for all 28 precincts, while Caissie had 10.67 percent. Bebo had 55.07 percent and Smith had 44.93 percent.
There were 1,997 votes cast in the local race, with Cole getting 1,784, and Caissie, 213.
Stephens County precincts reported in the statewide race for Corporation Commissioner, that incumbent Bob Anthony secured 69.44 percent of the votes, while his challenger Brooks Mitchell had 30.56 percent, of the total 96.91 percent votes cast. In that race, there were 1,944 ballots processed.
For the in-person and mail-in absentee voting for Stephens County, results showed Cole had 90.71 percent of the vote with 256 of 350 precincts reporting by 7:20 p.m.
In the absentee results, Bebo was reported to have 58.33 percent of the vote, or 56 votes; while Bert Smith had 41.67 percent, or 40 votes in the early in-person absentee voting results.
For the Senate District 43 race, Corey Brooks of Washington will meet in a runoff Aug. 28, against Duncan candidate Peggy Davenport.
Brooks gained 34.57 percent of the votes in Stephens County, while Davenport got 29.58 percent of the votes.
Other Stephens County results are Clark Southard, also of Duncan, with 26.90 percent, and Ron Magar of Newcastle with 8.95 percent.
There were 1,643 ballots cast in the SD 43 race in Stephens County.
In the House District 51 race, Julie McKinney of Central High, led voting in Stephens County, but failed to make the runoff. Also in that race were Glen Byte of Blanchard and Scott R. Biggs of Chickasha.
McKinney managed to get 46.24 percent of the local vote.
Biggs earned 41.50 percent of the Stephens County votes, and Byte had 12.25 percent of the votes. There were 612 votes cast in Stephens County for the HD 51 race.

Jefferson County gets rain and tornado warning
Two fronts passed through Jefferson County between 3 and 5 p.m. Monday, the second producing a rain-wrapped tornado spotted by storm watchers north of Ryan and moving east. The same front passed over Ringling, with circulation but no funnel formation reported.
Most damage in Jefferson County was limited to rural areas, where straight line wind damage was noted. Pea- to marble-sized hail fell twice in Waurika and the surrounding area, with minimal damage. -
Power outages keep burger flippers busy
Deborah Hudson slowed from the frantic pace just long enough to admit it was probably the busiest day ever at McDonald’s Restaurant in the Duncan Walmart on U.S. 81 here.
“It started around 3:30 p.m.” she said, watching a line 20 people deep patiently wait for a chance to order, “and it hasn’t let up since. We had to bring extra workers in from the other store and we’ve stayed just like this.” -
Duncan dodges destruction after small tornado knocks out power
A tornado touched down in Stephens County Monday about 3 p.m., east of Duncan, and Central High Mayor Julie McKinney snapped a photo of it with her cellphone. Watching it cross State Highway 29, three miles east of Marlow, with her, was Sheriff Wayne McKinney, Marlow Fire Chief Ryan Hall and county Emergency Management Director Gary Ball.
