Steven D. Hankins, 50, of Lawton, was killed in an accident just after noon Christmas Eve when he exited his vehicle on State Highway 7, about 4/10 of a mile east of southeast 90th Street in Comanche County.
Hankins was transported by ambulance to Comanche County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival from massive head and internal trunk injuries.
Hankins is a Central High graduate and has been a longtime supporter of the Central High FFA program, said Ron Curry, teacher and ag advisor at CH.
βHe was a very good supporter of our program and a really great guy. Apparently, he got out and was trying to help someone,β Curry said.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Hankins had just been involved in a non-injury collision at that location, with weather conditions a near-zero visibility blizzard. He exited his vehicle and was struck by a vehicle being driven by Rita Mary Williams, 54, also of Lawton. Hankins was throw about 50-feet from point of impact.
Trooper Robert Hedges of the Cotton County Detachment, assisted by Trooper Jack Stranahan of Troop W, Lt. Jerry Howell, Troop G, Trooper John Hoover and Trooper Tyrone Dixon, both of Comanche County Detachment, investigated this scene.
