Three injured Saturday in car accident

DUNCAN — Two vehicles were involved in a collision accident early Saturday morning near the intersection of State Highway 7 and Duncan Lake Road.

According to a report filed by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Crawford, a late model Chevy Impala, driven by Frankie Joe Marshall, of Duncan, was traveling east on State Highway 7 and crossed the center median for an unknown reason, rolling the vehicle one complete time and coming to rest upside down in the outside west bound lane.

Marshall then fled the scene on foot leaving the vehicle unattended in the roadway.

Soon after, a late model Chevy Pickup driven by Troy Derik Downey, of Ratliff City, was west bound on Highway 7, when he saw debris in the inside lane and swerved to avoid it. Upon swerving, the driver collided with the Impala in the other lane, injuring himself along with his two other passengers, Melissa Dawn Lauderdale, of Duncan, and Denise Dawn Cain, of Comanche.

Marshall returned to the scene of the accident around 45 minutes later and was arrested for a DUI.

Marshall was unhurt in the accident. Downey received leg injuries and was taken to Duncan Regional Hospital where he was later released. Cain was also treated and released from Duncan Regional Hospital with head and trunk internal injuries. Lauderdale was taken to DRH, then transported by Medi-flight to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she was admitted with head injuries. As of late Sunday afternoon, she was listed in critical condition.
