DUNCAN — Items for the Jaycee Organization’s auction are in for the most part but donations are still being accepted for their annual Christmas Auction begins at 6 p.m. Monday. The live auction will be hosted on DTV 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. daily until Dec. 4. The funds being raised through out the week will be used to purchase clothing underprivileged children in the Duncan area during the fall and winter seasons.
According to auction chairman Jay Head the Jaycee organization has collected around $28,000 in donations and are expecting to receive a little bit more than that by the time the auction starts.
“In the past years that we have done this we have received almost exactly the amount that our donations are worth,” Head said. “This year we are expecting to raise up around the $30,000 range area.”
At last year’s auction the Jaycees raised right around the $30,000 mark and were able to clothe around 350 young kids. Over the past 15 years they have averaged between $25,000 - $40,000 and have averaged around 350 kids each year.
Students of Duncan Public Schools have been given applications that need to be filled out and returned by Monday with the parents signature on them for the shopping tour, where the students will be going through Wal-Mart and Payless Shoes for their clothes.
This year the Jaycees have been working hard getting donations from all local businesses.
“We have everything available it seems like,” Head said. “There are things as small as car graphics, and knickknacks to microwaves and rugs.”
Also available will be iPods, memorabilia from Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University and gift certificates from various local businesses.
One Jaycee member, Jessika Davis, said that she would like to thank local business for their contributions.
“The local businesses in Duncan have been so helpful and willing to help these children as much as they can,” Davis said. “That’s what this is really all about is helping these kids.”
Head said that if anyone is willing to help or make more donations they can contact him at 580-255-1810. For those wanting to come by the Jaycee hut during the auction it is located at the corner of Seventh Street and Elder.
