DUNCAN — The Vietnam and Legacy Vets Motorcycle Clubs will be meeting for their annual Toy Run at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Carmike Theater parking lot. Both clubs will then leave from the theater and travel to the Duncan Toy Shop to make their delivery of toys and donations. Benefits of the Toy Run are going to help the Duncan Toy Shop and the children of Duncan.
In charge of this year’s event is biker Spencer Moore. Moore said that the reason for doing the toy run every year is to help the children and support the Duncan Toy Shop.
“Our club has been hosting and participating in this event for several years,” Moore said. “What this event is really about is giving these kids something special for the holidays and to help give recognition to the ladies of the Duncan Toy Shop.”
Moore said that he has been helping out with the toy run for 18 years, and every year it has grown bigger and more donations have come in every year. Moore is expecting to have maximum participation this year with the state of the economy.
“This event has gone so well in the past years that we have done this,” Moore said. “We hope to get a lot of people donating this year, Comanche did their toy run earlier this month and did really well and we hope to do just as well if not better at this one.”
Following the delivery of toys and donations the clubs will then gather at the Freedom Biker Church on 803 Walnut. Pastor Billy Morgan will be hosting a free barbecue lunch that will be open to the public at the church.
Morgan said that he appreciates all that the men of the motorcycle clubs do and that providing this lunch and social gathering is just his way of showing that appreciation.
“Some of these men may look big and tough, but they all have the biggest hearts in the world,” Morgan said. “They really do love these kids that they are helping and that’s what it is all about.”
Moore said that cash donations can still be made at the Duncan Toy Shop and anybody wanting to help is welcome to.
