DUNCAN — From recognition of a long-time resident of Duncan to acknowledgment of an assortment of events, the Duncan Chamber of Commerce and Industry had much to discuss during the monthly Chamber breakfast Thursday.
Barbara Jantz was named Someone You Should Know during the November breakfast. During each monthly meeting, a person from the Duncan community for his of her contributions to the community.
Jantz and her husband, Darrel, will be leaving Duncan to serve as hosts for the London Mennonite Centre in England. She has been serving as the director of adult ministries for First Christian Church.
“It’s been a joy,” Jantz said. “This is a great community to live in. I will miss this place.”
Don Howland introduced Jantz to the crowd at the breakfast.
Jantz expressed her surprise, which extended from Pastor Arnold Nelson telling her she was there to do the closing prayer.
“I didn’t see my name on the agenda,” Jantz said. “I still didn’t catch on.”
She said she was happy to receive the award.
“It’s just a great honor,” Jantz said. The rest of the breakfast revolved around events coming up in the community.
n The first event discussed was Duncan Little Theatre’s production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”
Michael Harris, who is directing the show, said everyone has been working hard to put on a show everyone will enjoy.
“This is the most talented cast and crew I’ve ever worked with, anywhere,” Harris said.
DLT players will perform the show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-5, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 6.
n Loisdawn Jones, Duncan Convention and Visitors Bureau director, discussed the eighth annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Auction.
The silent auction features about 33 items for people to bid on. The money raised by the donated trees and wreaths will go to benefit local charities.
“Please, please, please, bid, bid, bid,” Jones said.
n The Prairie House will have it’s Glow of Christmas program Nov. 27 and 28. Haljean Gillispie said the Priarie House is also looking for volunteers to decorate the house for Christmas.
n Another event coming soon is the Community Christmas Dinner. This is the 21st year for the event. The dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas day.
Sonny Webb, event chairman, said 2,750 people were served during last year’s dinner. Webb said about 3,000 people are expected to attend this year.
“We’d be glad to have you,” Webb said.
“It’s been good for the community.”
