<font color=green>PM Update</font> Quake shakes southern Oklahoma

VELMA — The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.0-magnitude quake struck about 10 p.m. Monday near Velma in northern Stephens County.

Velma Town Secretary Angel Pulis said today there have been no reports called in to the city.

“We have not had any reports of damage or any affects from the earthquake in town right now,” Pulis said.

Residents in northwestern sections of neighboring Carter County also reported feeling the tremor.

Researcher Amie Gibson with the Oklahoma Geological Survey Observatory said an earthquake of that magnitude was unlikely to have caused any significant damage.

“So far there have been 10 reports called in with no reports of damage,” Gibson said.

On Saturday, a 3.0-magnitude quake struck 18 miles east of Oklahoma City.

There have been 32 earthquakes registered this year the largest being two 3.6 - magnitude, one in Oklahoma County in March and the other in Garfield County in June. The counties with recordings of earthquakes have been: Grady, Lincoln, Coal, Garfield, Oklahoma, McClain, Pottawatomie, Okfuskee, Seminole and Stephens.
