DUNCAN — There’s many things that are representative of Halloween, whether its costumes, candy or various activities.
Many towns will be celebrating with festivities to keep their communities, especially the children, happy.
While Halloween may be on Saturday, the City of Comanche will celebrate the holiday tonight, instead.
Comanche City Manager Brant Ball said the town’s Trick the Trail will go from 4 to 6 p.m. This will give Comanche children a chance to visit businesses in the downtown area to get candy.
Following that designated time, the city will have a costume contest in the parking lot of the American National Bank in Comanche.
Ball said today was chosen for the festivities for a couple of reasons.
“We chose to do it (today) because Halloween is actually on Saturday,” Ball said. “Those businesses won’t be operational. Then on Friday, there’s a football game.”
He said the town would have a pumper fire truck in the downtown area to add to the activities of the evening.
“We’ll just have little kids running all around downtown,” Ball said.
Duncan’s trick-or-treating will take place Saturday night.
In addition to the basic traditions, the Simmons Center will have Family Fun Fall Fest, which will feature outdoor games and activities from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
During the program, there will be a haunted house and three movies showing. The movies will be “Walt Disney’s the Legend Sleepy Hollow,” Alfred Hitchock’s “The Birds” and “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
The Town of Velma will recognize the holiday between 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. During that time period children will get to go from house to house to collect candy.
The firefighters and the EMS stations will also be open as safezones for trick-or-treaters, and for the first time, the Velma Town Hall will be open as well.
“There is the possibility of a “Haunted Town Hall” as well,” Mayor Shawn Allred said, “where a wing of the town hall will be set up like a haunted house for the kids to walk through.
The town will also have a costume contest for various age groups at Velma Town Hall. It will consist of three age groups. The winners of each age group will each receive a cash prize.
The City of Marlow will also stick to a Saturday schedule when it comes to celebrating Halloween. The evening will be treated as a traditional Halloween night.
