DUNCAN — Duncan Medical Associates hired a new doctor in specialty of family medicine recently.
Dr. Elizabeth Seymour comes to Duncan Medical Associates from the “Lone Star” state of Texas. She attended Texas Women's University in Houston, and she attended medical school in Grand Cayman of the Cayman Islands. Dr. Seymour then finished with her residency at the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Seymour said that receiving a job with Duncan Medical Associates is not the only reason she took the job here in Duncan. Dr. Seymor has family in Rush Springs, Sterling, and Elgin, and likes be close to her family.
“It feels nice to be closer to the family so that we can visit and not travel as much.” Seymour said.
Dr. Seymour said that another reason she chose to work in Duncan is she enjoys the small town atmosphere.
“I like the big cities for the variety and things to do,” Seymour said. “But the thing I enjoy the most is the close knit communities of small towns.”
One of the biggest influences on Seymour’s decision to become a doctor was her father, who is a dentist. Another influence is the unending passion of always wanting to help people.
“I grew up and watched my dad help people and I always knew from then on that I wanted to become a doctor.” Seymour said.
Along with having a job that she loves, Seymour said that there are a lot of different perks to the job.
“One of the things I love most about my job is that I get to know my patients on a personal level,” Seymour said. “ I talk to my patients, I listen to their stories and it’s very rewarding.”
Even though Seymour says that her job is rewarding, she also said that there are some difficulties to her job. The biggest difficulty is being a doctor as well as a mother.
“Being a doctor is an amazing job and I love it,” Seymor said. “There are times though that make it tough to be a mom to my two kids and doctor too.”
