COMANCHE — At Comanche Public Schools, it won’t be difficult for parents to know how their students are doing in school.
The school district will soon be going online with its new Web site. The site will have individual log in ports for students and parents to keep each person well-informed about what’s going on in the schools.
Dana Young, technology for the district, said, “Parents will be able to better communicate with teachers.”
Young said the school district is often looking for ways to open lines of communications between the schools and parents. The new Web site will give parents and their students access to grades, assignments and various other personalized information.
She said grades would most likely be posted each week. A calendar will also be available on the site to let each student know what they have coming up, whether its a class assignment or an extra-curricular activity, depending on what sports, clubs and organizations he or she is involved in.
Comanche High School Principal Steve Dunham said he is excited about the Web site and can see a multitude of benefits for parents and students.
Dunham said students and parents can follow class progress by simply logging in on the Web site.
“It’s going to be nice when it’s posted,” he said. “We’re always looking for ways to communicate with parents.”
Young said response has been positive. Parents who have already gotten their passcodes for the site have found it easy to navigate. She said teachers have also found it easy to work with the site.
Dunham said one of the goals of the project is to find an easy way for parents to keep up on what’s going on in school.
“We want to make it convenient for parents,” Dunham said.
Although the Web site may be a benefit to parents, some students aren’t completely sure how they feel about the site. CHS students Crysta Shiek and Jesse Loughridge said they don’t like the prospect of parents being able to see how they do on every assignment, especially if they do poorly on one.
But they said they can see positives for students. Loughridge it would be nice to be able to see what assignments are coming due.
Also by having the assignments listed online, students, who may have missed a day of school, could see what assignments they need to make up to avoid falling behind.
While the Web site hasn’t officially posted, people can browse the new site at http://www.edline.net/pages/Comanche_Public_Schools. Young said the old site will eventually be taken down, and the new site will get the old site’s Web address.
“As teachers start using the site, parents will be able to view assignments and grades,” Young said. “It will also have an absence report.
“We hope the public will go on to find out sports info and school news.”
