A principal underfire has made for a divided community in Bray.
Bray-Doyle High School principal Jack Williams has been notified that his conduct at an April 12 board meeting has resulted in his termination after more than 20 years of service to Bray-Doyle Public Schools.
Bray-Doyle superintendent Kevin Mckinley said, “He has 34 years of service total. Not all of those have been at Bray-Doyle.
“He (Williams) was insubordinate not only to me but also to board members. He had to be removed from executive session.”
In light of the incident, McKinley said that he and the board had few options.
“What we went with is dismissal,” McKinley said. “We have given him notice and he had 10 days to respond, which he did.”
Williams requested a due-process hearing, which was granted and originally scheduled for July 12. However, there were some issues that arose and the meeting had to be postponed.
“There were some health issues with some board members family members and we had to postpone the meeting.”
McKinley said that there has not been a date set for Williams hearing, because he has to handle some legal matters.
“Our attorney has asked for a couple of things and I have to get those for him,” McKinley said.
Williams was rehired for the 2010-11 school year at a school board meeting in September, and McKinley said that Williams still has a contract for the upcoming school year pending the trial.
McKinley also stated that “this has nothing to do with basketball.”
Calls to Williams were not returned Thursday.
