DUNCAN —
Duncan police are looking for a man who robbed the local Walgreens about 5:44 a.m. Wednesday. Detective John Byers said there are some leads about who may have done it, and the investigation is ongoing.
“He was acting real suspicious inside the store and doing some overt movements which drew the pharmacist’s attention,” Byers said.
The alleged robber came into the store in the early morning hours and wandered around the store for some time. He approached the pharmacist more than once, requesting prescription medicine under a phony name, Byers said. On the last approach to the counter, he demanded a large quantity of Oxycontin, a scheduled narcotic.
“The pharmacist didn’t recognize him, but she gave a good description. She was pretty shaken up,” Byers said.
The suspect is described as 6-foot, 4-inches and weighing about 260 pounds. He had a light complexion. Byers said he has a heavy build, and his hair was cut short in a buzz-cut, and is brown. He was wearing a blue earring. His clothing description is a white T-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes, possibly khaki color.
“This was robbery by force or fear. We know he left on foot outside the store,” Byers said. After watching surveillance video, they know the individual did not get in a vehicle at the store, but there may have been one parked elsewhere.
Byers said if someone has a severe addiction, they will do what they can to feed that addiction, but the medicine that was stolen also has a street value. The estimated value of the Oxycontin that was taken during this robbery is nearly $20,000.
If anyone has information, they should call Byers at 251-7624, or Crime Stoppers, 252-INFO.
