Wolff, DCR facility earn special state recognition

DUNCAN — Duncan Community Residence, under the administration of Brian Wolff has earned the Certification with Special Distinction from the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Since DCR has first undergone such inspections, it has never received lower than a 95 percent rating, yet for the past two years, they have received 100 percent.

“We pay an application fee for this and when you get the special distinction, they refund it,” said Wolff. “Only about two dozen residential homes receive the distinction.”

Wolff and his staff have made a valuable contribution to the Oklahoma Residential Assisted Living Association and the community of Duncan. The group home facility staff was recognized for their extraordinary professionalism and high quality of resident care.

“I feel honored that they recognized us because we do work hard and it’s not an easy job,” said Wolff. “We’re providing a quality service and doing the best we can.”

When the inspectors come, they look for the quality of life provided to the residents, inspect to see that proper paperwork procedures and staff training among other things are followed. The home is given 24-hour notice of the inspection team’s arrival.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives commended Wolff and the facility for the honor and commitment to their residents and claim them as an asset to the community of Duncan.

“Representative Dennis Johnson found out about it and came out and I thought that was pretty good,” said Wolff. “It’s nice to get a pat on the back.”

Wolff also recognized the community as part of their success.

“The support we get from the community through funds from the United Way are important, because without that, we wouldn’t be able to meet the standards,” he said. The facility is an agency member of the United Way of Stephens County.

In a different specter, Wolff was also issued a long term care administrator license. As of July 1, every residential home director is required to have a license. Because Wolff has been licensed for several years, he was grandfathered in and has already received his new license.
