Street priorities

DUNCAN — Duncan’s City Council will be asked to approve a prioritized list of street and waterline reconstruction projects at Tuesday night’s regular meeting; a decision which will begin the process of a $20 million bond election early next year.

Prior to setting up the bond election, a list of projects has to be included in an election proclamation, City Manager Clyde Shaw explained at the council’s last meeting.

If the priority list is approved, the election bill will be presented at the Nov. 14 council meeting.

The council will also consider setting the filing periods and election dates for the City Council seats for Wards 3 and 4; seats currently held by Tommy Edwards and John Herdt.

Edwards and Herdt were appointed to the council last year to fill the vacated seats of Gene Brown, who successfully ran for mayor, and Phil Greenwald, who took a new job out of town.

If approved, the filing period will be Dec. 4-6 and the primary election will be held Feb. 13.

Several recommendations from the city’s planning commission are also up for approval Tuesday night; including an amendment to the city code to add tattoo parlors and body piercing establishments to the zoning regulations.

Other zoning issues will include the final plat approval for the Westfield Addition Part 4; a day care permit for a home on Fifth Street; and an amendment to the city code to define and regulate outside storage units for residential property in Duncan.

In the subsequent meeting of the Duncan Public Works Authority, the council will consider the sale of electrical power, and the rate to charge, to Cotton Electric, and amending the Good Cents program to encourage efficiency levels.

During the final meeting Tuesday night, the Duncan Economic Development Trust Authority will consider an incentive payment to Pre-Paid Legal.

The council meets at 5:15 p.m. in the council chamber inside the Duncan Police Administration building on the corner of Seventh and Willow.
