Duncan man faces sex crime charge involving teen

DUNCAN — Duncan Police arrested a man Saturday after they found him allegedly drunk in a parked vehicle, with a 15-year-old female. During the investigation, officers also found a gun in the car.

Christopher Jason Cooper, 28, of Duncan, appeared in Stephens County District Court Monday on charges of forcible oral sodomy and actual physical control of vehicle under the influence.

He is out on a $26,000 bond and his preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. Nov. 7.

It all began when DPD officers found Cooper in the company of a 15-year-old female he picked up earlier in the evening and then forced nonconsensual contact with the juvenile.

Officers  were investigating a suspicious vehicle in a neighborhood believed to be known for drug activity, according to the affidavit filed in district court.  

According to the affidavit DPD officer Bryan Eades was in the 600 block of N. E St. at approximately 9 p.m. along with another officer when they observed a silver sedan parked in a parking space near the park at E and Demilay.

After observing the vehicle for 10 minutes, the officers approached the vehicle and found Cooper in the driver’s seat with his pants down, noted the affidavit.

Officers observed Cooper moving slowly and appeared to have bloodshot and glassy eyes. Cooper told the officers he had been drinking beer. He also was unsteady on his feet as exited the vehicle, using the car to keep his balance. Officers asked if Cooper had a gun, he acknowledged he had a firearm in the trunk.

While administering the field sobriety test and after handcuffing Cooper for driving under the influence, Officer Eades talked with the female passenger. When her mother arrived to pick her up from the scene, the female passenger reported she had been assaulted by Cooper.

The teenager was interviewed by Detective John Byers of the DPD at the police station about the incident.

After having his blood drawn at Duncan Regional Hospital ER, the affidavit notes that Cooper was booked into Stephens County Jail.

His vehicle was placed into impound and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol with no magazine was retrieved from the trunk.

A matching magazine loaded with 14 full metal jacket rounds was recovered from the center console.

  • Duncan students to remain in school Tuesday, Wednesday
    When Duncan seniors cross the stage tonight, they won’t necessarily be done with high school.
    Duncan students will go to school Tuesday and Wednesday, following a three-day weekend for Memorial Day. DHS Assistant Principal Merry Stone said those two days are regular school days for students.

  • Restaurant rumors remain on the hot plate

    From IHOP and HomeTown Buffet to Chili’s and Olive Garden, restaurant whisperings have been running rampant in the community since the arrival of Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar.
    Although there are a few open spaces such as the old Golden Corral location and the soon-to-close Honda site, none of these rumors can be confirmed at this point according to Chris Deal, Duncan Chamber of Commerce president. No information on any of the businesses’ websites points to them opening a new location in the area.

    Tam Pham left a lasting impression on Duncan Middle School, and the school has returned the favor.
    On Wednesday, the middle school, along with Duncan Public Schools administrators, recognized Pham for his 28 years of service as head custodian at Duncan Middle School. Pham retired earlier this school year. To honor Pham, the district planted a Chinese pistachio tree in front of the middle school. A base plaque was included to commemorate Pham’s dedication to Duncan Public Schools.
