DUNCAN — Amy Crumrine brings a commitment to quality in her role as The Banner’s newest advertising representative and is excited about overseeing The Bargain Guide, a weekly free shopper, and various individual accounts.
Crumrine’s experience ranges from working for a government subcontractor for Kennedy Space Center to the automotive industry and most recently, serving as an events manager at the Simmons Center in the tourism department.
“My first boss here in Duncan was Jessika Davis. She really helped me become familiar with the area and its people,” she said.
Crumrine moved to Duncan about two years ago, with her longtime companion, Jason Rucker, who is originally from here, she said.
They both had contract jobs — he in California, she in Florida, and when those expired, she said Rucker suggested they move to Duncan. While some people find adjusting to life in a smaller community to be a task having less places to shop or a lack of nightlife, for Crumrine, she had to learn something many southern people consider a part of their everyday lifestyle.
“Moving to a small town, I’ve had to learn how to cook. Jason’s a better cook in our house, but settling down, it was one of those things. As he says, what I make is now extremely edible,” she said.
“I’m learning to adapt to a smaller town. I enjoy the Duncan community and the safety it offers. And it’s within driving distance of Oklahoma City.”
Crumrine graduated from high school in Key West, Fla., but is a native Oklahoman, originally from Edmond, she said.
When Crumrine decided to expand her working experience in Duncan, she began looking for something that would offer longevity and a solid company that she could build a career upon.
“I’ve always been involved with advertising from the consumer side. Working in the automotive industry, I became very familiar with advertising,” she said. Crumrine said she also wanted to join with a company with a low turnover rate. She said she found that when looking at The Banner.
“I’m extremely excited about Amy joining our sales team,” said Kevin Hook, Banner publisher.
“Her marketing experience and her knowledge of the market makes Amy a great fit for this position. Amy understands the importance of customer service which should serve her well in this industry,” Hook said.
Advertising director Dana Boyles also is glad to have Crumrine join her team.
“The advertising department welcomes Amy and her previous sales experience is an added asset of value to the team,” Boyles said.
Crumrine and Rucker enjoy their spare time as new Moose Lodge members and time with their three dogs, an English Mastiff, a red Husky and a Corgi. She has a son, Korbin, 14, who lives in Edmond. She has been active with the Prairie House Foundation.
“Gail Loafman was one of the first people I met here,” she said. Crumrine hasn’t waited though to get involved with the community and knows many of the area business owners and is looking forward to meeting more of them, both through her position as an advertising representative and as a member of the community.
