Donations accepted today for Abigail Smith fundraiser
First Baptist Church is hosting a fundraiser, organized by Morgan Collier, for photographer Abigail Smith from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Smith has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Fundraising efforts include a garage sale, a bake sale and a silent auction. Several area photographers have joined together to donate professional portrait sessions. All proceeds will go to Smith to help with paying medical bills.
Furniture, clothes, decor, baby items or other items are being accepted at 4 p.m. today, in the church gym. For more information, call Morgan Collier at 580-606-0957.
County youth science fair opens Friday
The Stephens County Science Fair is set for Friday and Saturday at the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center. Science fair projects will be judged Friday, and awards will be presented to winners Saturday.
DLT ready to perform ‘Back to the ‘80s’
“Back to the ’80s,” a Duncan Little Theatre production centered on a group of high school students in their senior year in the 1980s.
The musical will run at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Feb. 22 and Feb. 13 at the Simmons Center Theatre.
Soul food feast returns for Black History Month
The annual Soul Food Feast will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Douglass gym. The event, headed by the Black History Month Comittee, is one of several events planned for the month of February.
Stephens County Courthouse closed Monday
The Stephens County County Courthouse will be closed Monday, Feb. 18, for President’s Day. The Stephens County Commissioners will meet Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the courthouse.
Simmons Center Health Fair
The “We (Heart) Kids” Health Fair takes place 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Simmons Center.
There will be numerous booth/stations set up to promote health and fitness for youth. All ages are welcome and there will be games, activities, inflatables and more. Youth fitness class demonstrations will be going on from performed by Extreme Thunder, Youth Zumba, cheer company and more. The first 250 children in the door receive a free funpack. This is a free event.
