Search for city manager begins

Special meeting set for Thursday

DUNCAN — The special Duncan City Council meeting originally scheduled for Jan. 21 will now take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Duncan City Council Chambers.

The special meeting will be with a consultant from Chell Consulting, LLC., to begin establishing a profile for the position of city manager and pertinent information.

Current City Manager, Clyde Shaw is planning to retire at the end of May, and the City of Duncan thought it would be pertinent to go ahead and begin the search process for Shaw’s successor.

The proposal contract for Chell Consulting was approved by the Duncan City Council during the Jan. 12 regular meeting.

As found in a memo from Shaw to the Mayor and City Council for the Jan. 12 meeting, Shaw wrote, “In order to allow for a smooth and orderly transition, the contract provides for a minimum of 120 days notice and this contractual requirement has been met. Chell consulting is an Oklahoma based company and has been providing municipal government consulting services since 1995. They have a proven track record.”

Chell Consulting has recently completed recruiting processes for city managers in Ponca City and Tuttle, as well as police chiefs for Marlow and Hobart. Currently, the company is in the process of recruiting a city engineer for Grove and was recently retained to assist the City of Blanchard in its city manager search.

The company has a list of criteria for six areas of finding the ideal candidate for the position which include recruiting, organization and position analysis, preliminary screening, progress reporting, candidate evaluation and final reporting client interviews. The entire process should take around 13 weeks to complete before asking for following interviews and doing final background checks on possible candidates.

Anyone interested in further information on Chell Consulting, LLC can visit their website at www.chellconsulting.com to review their most recent recruiting assignments.

The city did announce in last night’s regular City Council meeting that should weather become an issue Thursday night, the meeting would be moved to Tuesday.
