RRTC approves Employment Retention Incentive Plan

DUNCAN — In a school board meeting full of renewal items on the agenda the Red River Technology Center was busy on July 13.

One item on the agenda that was approved and renewed was the Additional Retirement Compensation Contracts. RRTC Superintendent Ken Layn said that these contracts were for insurance reimbursement from the age of 62 until the retiree reaches the age of 65.

“If a teacher is here with us for 7 years we begin looking into them for these compensation contracts,” Layn said. “It is very hard when a good teacher makes tenure and you want to keep them there so this is an incentive to keep these teachers until they retire at 62 until they reach 65 when Medicaid kicks in.”

Also on the agenda was the approval of Layn as the purchasing agent for the Agency for Surplus Property.

“There is a property in Oklahoma City where the sell surplus items and instead of ordering an item that we may need I will be able to go down their and purchase the item,” Layn said. “From my understanding it is a first come first serve kind of thing so this just makes it easier.”

The board also voted to approve the RRTC student handbook, the  RRTC consumer guide, Health Careers handbook and the cosmetology handbook.

“This is just another one of those things that the school board has to look through before each year and see if any corrections need to be made,” Layn said. “There were no significant changes made to any of the handbooks or the consumer guide.”

Also approved Tuesday night was the salary schedule for part-time employees and the rates for substitute teacher pay.

“Our substitute teacher pay rates are staying the same for this year,” Layn said. “The only change we made to the salary of part-time employees is the substitutes secretary position will be making $10 an hour now.”

Layn added that the substitute teacher pay rate is as follows: n  $45 for one-half day for all but full-time health programs and cosmetology.

-  $55 for one full day for all but full-time health programs and cosmetology.

- $45 for one half-day for cosmetology.

- $75 for full day for cosmetology.

- $25 per hour with a four-hour minimum what a Licensed Registered Nurse is required.

The part-time employee schedule for the 2010-11 school year is: n  $10 per hour for substitute secretary, $7.25 per hour for seasonal maintenance workers, substitute food service and maintenance workers and $10 per hour for computer technician assistants.

Layn noted that the board also approved the continuation of short-term adult class tuition waiver for selected participants.

The criteria to be eligible for the tuition waiver is as follows: n  Students must be a displaced homemaker, single parent or single pregnant woman.

-  Student must be economically disadvantaged.

- Student must be receiving tuition assistance from any other sources including but not limited to Work Force Investment, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Veterans Assistance or Vocational Rehabilitation. Students receiving assistance from the Department of Human Services Temporary Assistance to Needy Families will be eligible for a waiver only if funds from the TANF training programs are depleted.

-  If it is determined that the client has falsified any of the information used to determine waiver eligibility, the client forfeits any benefits that would have been received.
