DUNCAN —
Quilters with a local group have been in production nonstop since last year’s first Quilting on the Trail Quilt Show - with one goal in mind - to make this year even bigger and better than the first year.
The show, sponsored by Stitching Memories Quilt Guild opens 9 a.m. Friday and will remain open until 5 p.m. and again on Saturday at the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center’s Conference building.
The quilt show features everything from small handcrafted items to full size quilts and if last year’s format follows - there will be plenty of baked goods.
This year, the show will spread out to be in every room of the building.
There will be about 150 quilts on display and the fairgrounds building will be transformed into a Quilt Mall of sorts, complete with a mercantile, silent auction, door prizes, demonstrations and many other activities.
A raffle quilt “Wildflowers on the Trail” has already been appraised at $1,900. It is 80-inches by 106-inches and was created with bright batick fabrics.
The quilting was completed by Quilts by Gail out of Chickasha. Any quilt guild member has tickets for those anxious to win the one of a kind quilt. Drawing will be held Saturday afternoon.
Additionally, the Stephens County 4-H Club will serve lunch each day (for a cost), that includes brisket, baked beans and more.
It will be in the “Chuckwagon Kitchen” which also will be decorated. Desserts are being made by the Stephens County OHCE groups.
This is a part of the Western Spirit Celebration which everyone is encouraged to also attend at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center.

Duncan woman involved in Grady County accident
Duncan resident Alejandra Martinez Varela, 21, was involved in an accident Saturday in Grady County. She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital by Rush Springs EMS and treated for arm and internal injuries. She was released.
