Former Duncan resident held over in abuse case

GLADWIN, Mich. — A Duncan, Okla., man was arrested Sunday by Gladwin City Police, following the alleged rape of a 2 year-old in that city.

Trent Perault, 27, arrived in Gladwin only three weeks ago, said Gladwin Sgt. Tom Huber. Perault is being held in the Gladwin County Jail on $250,000 bond on charges of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and child abuse in the first degree. The first charge, if convicted, carries a life imprisonment sentence, said Huber.

Police arrested Perault on Sunday after receiving a report that a toddler had been brought into the local hospital there with severe injuries.

The baby remained in the hospital as of Tuesday, Huber said.

“This is the first one of these I’ve seen in years,” Huber said.

He also said Perault appeared to be in Gladwin without any other family.

Huber said the victim was not from Oklahoma.

Preliminary hearing for Perault has been set for 9 a.m. July 27 in the 80th District Court of Gladwin County with Aaron Miller as prosecuting attorney.

Duncan Police Lt. Jimmy Williams said DPD records show Perault was stopped once in 2006 on a traffic offense and did not have a driver’s license.
