‘Slipper’y at Teen Theatre

Registrations accepted for ’09

DUNCAN — Duncan Little Theatre is accepting registrations for “Teen Theatre 2009,” which will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day, Monday through Friday, from July 6-25 at the Simmons Center. Participation is open to students in grades six through 12.

Registration forms can be filled out on-site on the first day of the workshop, or may be obtained in advance by visiting www.duncanlittletheatre.com/teen_theatre. Cost of the workshop is $60, and scholarships are still available.

Attendees will receive training in acting, makeup, costumes, sets, and publicity — all taught by experienced DLT members.

The workshop culminates in a performance of the play, “The Glass Slipper,” at 2 p.m. July 25 at the Simmons Center. Bethann Hough will direct.

This is Hough’s second year to direct Teen Theatre, and she is really looking forward to it, she said.

“We usually have between 15 and 20 kids, mostly girls and mostly the younger ones. The older kids have jobs and such in the summer, and are not able to participate.

“I’m being assisted by Blake Parks, who is a college student. He will be with us most days to help with the set design and serve as stage manager. The kids will help paint the sets and do a little bit of everything else.

“I chose ‘The Glass Slipper’ for the production because it’s a different twist on the old Cinderella story, and it requires only two sets — one change.” she said.

“We’re going to do our own makeup this year. In the past, I’ve had a DLT volunteer do it, but the kids said they wanted to learn, so we’re doing that, too.”

Tickets to the performance on July 25 are $5 for adults. Children are admitted free.

“We’re not trying to make a lot of money, but the performance is a chance for the kids to show what they’ve learned and it gives them experience acting in front of an audience. It’s a fun time,” she said.
