Barbershoppers celebrate 50 years with show tonight

DUNCAN —  

Voices from across Southwest Oklahoma will be coming together for the 50th annual Southwest Pride Chorus concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Simmons Center.
This year’s performance from the men’s barber shop singing group is “Barbershop and the Music of America.” The Vocal Orchestration Corporation and Chairmen of the Chord will also perform during the event. The group asks that you bring canned goods to benefit local food banks to the performance.
Should you miss the Duncan performance, they will have a second event at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, in McMahon Memorial Auditorium in Lawton. Tickets will be sold at the door for both performances.
Southwest Pride is part of an international organization, the Barbershop Harmony Society, and is made up of men ages  eight to 80 from all walks of life who like to sing a cappella from Lawton and Duncan.
They meet from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Monday night First, third and fifth Mondays are in Lawton at the First Presbyterian Church and second and fourth Mondays are in Duncan at the First United Methodist Church. For more information, visit www.swpridechorus.com.
