Young 70 Years

Mr. and Mrs. William Young

DUNCAN —  

Anna Reese and William Russell Young of Duncan celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Feb. 17.

Anna Reese Bostain and William Russell Young were married Feb. 17, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Ross officiated by W. Ralph Wharton, Church of Christ minister.

During their marriage, the couple has lived in Chattanooga and Nashville, Tenn., Atlanta, Ga., Sunnyvale, Calif., Denver and Colorado Springs, Colo., Madison, N.J., Falls Church, Alexandria and Williamsburg, Va., and Duncan since 1999.

After serving in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II and in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, Russell worked for AT&T until his retirement in 1979 as manager of government communications in Washington, D.C. He was  senior consultant for The Stanford Research Institute for several years. 

He met and worked with eight U.S. presidents and received numerous awards, including the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service. He also met and had lunches with J. Edgar Hoover.

Anna spent many years working for the Bell Systems in Tennessee, Georgia, California, and New Jersey; for American Airlines, and for the Army post communications at Fort Carson.

The couple shares interests in activities with the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, including the World Bible School, and with the Eastside Church of Christ, where they are currently members. They also enjoy fishing, yard work and reading.Their son is John Young and wife Marlene of Duncan. Grandchildren are Bethany Benes and husband Pete of Ada, Scott Young of Tulsa, and Brandon Young of Mesa, Ariz. Great-grandchildren are Rachel and Morgan Benes of Ada.
