DUNCAN —
Starliter’s returns Friday, for another season of ballroom dancing, with a younger generation of members, says Martha Burger.
The Starliter’s Dance Group has been in existence for more than 50 years and each year four dances are held for those who love big band music and a chance to dance.
Burger has been a member of the Starliters for many years. She said this past year, a new generation of people came to enjoy the dances. Part of that can be attributed to the popularity of the TV show, “Dancing with the Stars.”
“It use to be a real formal event, but now it’s just a nice time where you can dress up nice (not formal) and go enjoy the music,” Burger said.
“We are adding younger members.”
By younger, Burger says that’s usually people in their 40s and 50s, since many of the members are retired and have been with the dance group since it started.
“They should expect the big band music. We have ‘Talk of the Town’ from the Norman/Oklahoma City area. They play all over and will be returning. They are really good.”
Dances are held at Duncan Golf and Tennis Club.
Those who choose to attend should dress for a “night out on the town” but not overly formal. If they would like, they can come early and eat at Peyton’s Place restaurant inside the facility.
The dance will provide appetizers for those who would just choose to go to the event.
“It’s just for fun, for people who like ballroom dancing especially,” Burger said.
There is a charge of $50 per couple to the dance, or $150 for a season pass. Dancing isn’t required though.
“They can just come listen to the music.”
The dance is 8 to 11 p.m. Friday. For information, call Burger at 580-255-0848.
