CTHC offers summer moviemakers camp for teens

Deadline to enroll is Thursday

DUNCAN — There is still time to enroll in the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center’s summer camp events, which begin Monday with a filmmaker’s camp for teenagers.

Thursday is the deadline for the Movie Makers Film Camp which begins Monday and continues through June 14.

“This summer, we are offering summer camp opportunities for kids, teens and adults,” said Stacy Cramer, Executive Director for the Heritage Center.

The Video and Filmmaker Camp will teach interested young filmmakers different aspects of video production and the media industry.

“This is your chance to learn the fundamental skills required to make a group video project from start to finish,” Cramer said. Topics will include storyboarding, location scouting and basic camera techniques and composition. Participants will also be shooting a video and editing it with titles, transitions and music.

The course is for youth, ages 11 to 13, from 9 a.m. to noon each day; and for ages 14 to 16, 1 to 3 p.m. each day.

Geoffrey L. Smith will be leading the camp. In 2002, he approached the Oklahoma City Museum of Art with an idea for a video production summer camp and it filled to capacity. Each year, it has grown and more sessions were added. He realized he had found something that other museums could implement.

Smith is an artist-in-residence for the Oklahoma Arts Council and also Arts Council of Oklahoma City. He has made the film industry his career and life. He also freelances for ESPN and Fox Sports, in the sports media industry, noted Cramer.

Other camps scheduled for this summer at the Heritage Center are Zentangle, with Barbara LaGree, set to begin June 20 for ages 8 to adult during different sessions; and a hand quilt and embroidery camp for children, ages 9, along with a parent, sibling or grandparent, July 9-11;

There is a cost per child for each camp enrolled.

For information or to enroll your child in this camp experience, call CTHC’s Education Coordinator Leah Mulkey 580-252-6692 or leah@onthechisholmtrail.com.
